March 4, 2018 (Sunday): We will obey that command to “March forth”. A moderate hike of about 6 miles is a bit shorter and easier than from Chuckanut Dr. Meet at the REI parking lot ready to leave at 9:00, or at Samish Overlook by 9:30 ish. A Discover Pass is required for parking at Samish Overlook. Lunch at the top. For information contact Richard via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
I was going to try to beat Pam’s record for Trip Report brevity, but the beauty of Sunday requires a few more words. It seemed that the half of Bellingham that was not at the Boulevard Park was on the trails to Oyster Dome. Taking advantage of the time change, we got started early and it was only on the return from the top did “I-5 meet the Chuckanuts”. From the Samish Overlook, the hike takes less than an hour and a half each way, and that included negotiating a couple of hundred yards of treacherous ice on the trail, in the last half mile or so. A lucky few brought their micro spikes, and there was only one spill. One drawback of the time change was that the Dome was mostly in shade during the early lunch break, but the views were still wonderful. We returned to brilliant sunshine at the Overlook a little after 1:00.
p.s. If you are hesitant to become a trip leader, remember that the experienced members on the outing are a valuable resource of information. They can be very helpful. Do not be afraid to ask questions or for guidance as the need arises.
