February 9, 2018 (Friday): Trip Leader: Owen Bamford. Estimated 5 miles round trip and 1,500 to 2,000 feet of elevation gain.
Twelve humans and a dog met me at the trailhead parking lot, apparently preferring to spend a morning in the damp woods than doing whatever chores were waiting at home. The promised sunny skies did not appear but we pressed on anyway through occasional light rain, enjoying the excellent trail construction and signage on the trail, and reaching the viewpoint at around 11. Almost the whole length of Lake Whatcom could be seen, and if you looked hard you could see Bellingham and the bay. We stood and admired the view and ate snacks and chatted for a while, and discussed without much enthusiasm the possibility of hiking further up the road. When Lookout Mountain disappeared behind curtains of rain we decided to quit while we were ahead, and started back down the trail.
It was nice to see some new faces, as well as some of the usual suspects. Thanks to all who showed up.
