“Short Notice” Hike
Fourteen hikers and one dog arrived at West Beach in Deception Pass State Park to enjoy brilliant sunshine and the roar of jets practicing touch-and-go landings at the nearby air base. We viewed the San Juans, the Olympics and even Mount Rainier from the top of Goose Rock, and the Navy graciously took a lunch break at the same time we did, so we enjoyed the sun and quiet on the summit. We walked on North Beach on the return trip, and then four of us decided to spend a little more time in the beautiful weather and explored Lighthouse Point from Bowman Bay Park before heading back to Bellingham.
