Saturday morning, eight of the heartiest Mount Baker Club hikers showed up to climb Sugarloaf Mtn and Mt Erie. Most the trip was cool and pleasant with very little moisture falling. Once we hit the peak of Erie the 30-40 mph winds combined with moist cool air caused winds that proved we all had breathable outer layers of clothing. After pictures and a quick scenery check (spectacular) we found a flat soft spot on the leeward side of the mountain to have lunch. Views from atop Sugarloaf were less than stellar as visibility was down to approx. 25 feet at that point. Nonetheless we had an exhilarating day with great conversation and laughs. For those of you planning hikes in Anacortes, Deception Pass, or the Whidbey Island areas should try to make a stop at Bastion Brewing in Anacortes, very conveniently located along Hwy 20. As we pleasantly discovered they have all the important post-hiking essentials!
