The rabble of 24 descended upon Deception Pass SP on Friday to stroll around Bowman Bay. The weather was specular, but not quite as spectacular as the view of the Olympic Mts from I-5 as we drove south from Bellingham. We stopped at several viewpoints at Lighthouse Point and could barley tear ourselves away from each view as we worked our way towards Lottie Bay. We paid our respects to KwǝKwálǝlwǝt (The Maiden of Deception Pass) and ate a late lunch at Rosario Head. Unfortunately the sun decided to dive behind the clouds until we just finished and started heading out. Jim was our staff geologist for the trip and described the Jurassic period pillow lava and ribbon chert that makes up Rosario Head. Thanks, Jim! We saw lots of birds and some seals and Pam even spotted a seal lion. Some folks decided to stop at Edison Inn to hoist a few. All in all, a good day.
