The hike will start at 9:30am in the Whatcom Falls Parking Lot off Electric Ave. The route will head down past the initial falls and will follow Creek to. Whirlpool Falls. We will then ascend the steep stairs up and right on Main Trail to weave our way along the Railroad Trail and eventually cross the Alabama bridge to intersect with the of Klipsun Trail. We will ascend the hill and stairs, about 500 ft elevation to continue to the loop trail of North Ridge. Enjoy a walk through Big Rock Park and then down through Silver Lake overlooking Lake Whatcom and finally back to the parking lot through Scudder Pond and Derby Pond. May stop by my house for lunch, hot tea, coffee, cocoa and dessert before heading back to cars. Estimated 7 miles round trip. Contact Judith Akins with questions. 360-982-8599
We had 16 hardy souls for a walk through WF Park and North Ridge Park. The weather warmed as we walked and had a few good bird sightings including red crowned kinglets, varied thrushes, sap suckers and 5 trumpeter swans. We climbed the hundred + stairs up Alabama Hill on Klipsun Trail over to North Ridge and up to Big Rock Park (closed). Ended back by Scudder Pond and my house for lunch. A good 3 hours out in the crisp clean air. Thanks all for coming.
