Little Mountain Park Hike

Saturday, October 29, 2016  8:30am – 4:00pm

Located South of Mount Vernon, this is a 3.9 mile loop with a 534 ft. elevation gain which features a forest setting. A moderate climb followed by a short but steeper section approaching the summit overlook. From the top, gaze over the Skagit Flats, Skagit River and Whidby Island. Bring a lunch to enjoy at the top where there are some picnic tables. A vault toilet is also available. Dress for the weather and bring rain gear just in case. Meet at Sunnyland School at 8:30 to carpool. From I 5 take exit 225 onto Anderson Road East for one mile. Turn right on E. Blackburn Rd then right again on Little Mountain Road to the park entrance. Forest passes are not required to park and this is a dog friendly trail. Contact Mary Brooke for more information at 360-303-1848 or brohiker@gmail.com

Trip Report

Ten hearty hikers embraced the rain and met at Little Mountain South of Mount Vernon for a Fall hike.   Even though it was raining, we had shelter from the trees and Giant Maple leaves carpeting the trail as we ascended.

There were two different viewpoints of the valley at the top  and on the way up, from a metal viewing platform which extends out from the mountain.
To warm up and dry out following the hike 6 of us gathered at the Porterhouse in downtown Mount Vernon for lunch.
I would highly recommend this easy to moderate hike.
