Two destinations, one hike. Or you can just pick one. Dock Butte is only 3.5 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 1300′, but is rated moderate because the last section to the butte is really steep. On the other hand, the 360-degree view of Baker, Shuksan, and an endless array of lesser peaks is fantastic and well worth the effort. Blue Lake is an easy 1.5 mile side trip off the Dock Butte trail. The lake is a clear blue-green, backed by dramatic cliffs. Blueberries are not guaranteed, but are possible. Meet at Sunnyland Elementary School parking lot to carpool and leave at 8:00am, or meet at the Baker Lake Road turnoff from SR 20 about 9:00am. It was a beautiful day to hike. Twenty strong set out in a bit of a fog to conquer the Butte. We had in and out glimpses of Baker, Loomis Mt. and Baker Lake but sadly the great views were not to be had today. Blue Lake was gorgeous as usual and the fall colors vibrant. We all agreed that this moderate hike had its challenges.
