Trip report: Lake Ann 9/10/2016

I had posted a reminder that the trail was in wilderness so group size was limited to 12, and if we got more then we would have to divide up. Apparently people took this to mean they should stay home, though it wasn’t intended as such. In the end a select group of seven intrepid hikers braved the weather forecast and had an excellent, and dry, day out. The steep descent from the parking lot to the meadows produced a lot of thoughtful comments about having to come back up it at the end of the day, but otherwise there were no complaints. The meadow creeks were easy to cross, and the trail was in good shape except for a few muddy spots. A pika posed for photographs. After crossing the meadows we climbed the rocky switchbacks to the viewpoint above the lake, and had lunch with a view of the glaciers on Mt Shuksan. The cloud level occasionally rose enough to show the upper glacier, though the mountain top was never exposed. After lunch some of us walked around the lake and looked for insects in the creeks, then we all started back. As an extra treat, Baker came into view, nicely framed in a gap in the clouds, and as another extra treat, some of us stopped for ice cream in Glacier.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for this epic, almost 9-mile outing.
